Visit to the Deepdene Trail, Dorking

We will be taken around the new Deepdene Trail by a Project Officer from Mole Valley
District Council, in advance of the official opening of the Trail. A grant of over £1
million from the Heritage Lottery Fund has enabled the repair and linking up of
landscape and architectural features, including the intriguing Hope Mausoleum, at
this historic site on the eastern edge of Dorking. The Trail will enable visitors to enjoy
one of England’s great ‘lost’ estates, including one of the country’s earliest Italianate
gardens, now being reinstated. We will be shown the historic features and the modern
techniques used in their restoration and interpretation. The trail is steep in places.
